Entertaiment is an activity understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience from external stimuli, offers pleasure, requires an audience to exist and occurs in a passive form. According to Bates and Ferri (2010), entertainment can be defi ned as an activity that consumes energy, enlivens the senses, involves a change in state of consciousness and is a positive alternative to boredom.
The word “entertainment” derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, from the Indo-European root ten, meaning to hold inside. Ironically, TEN is also the abbreviation for Transformational Entertainment News, which was founded as a means to transform the meaning of the word entertainment.
